Painting contractor websites: portfolio-led, priced honestly, bookable.

Paint is judged by looking at it. A homeowner deciding between three painters is comparing photographs on a phone, usually in under a minute, and usually before anybody has quoted anything.

The short answer

What we actually fix first: a gallery with a phone number on it.

A painting site has one job that matters. Show finished work fast enough that a homeowner on a phone stops comparing, then make calling you take one tap. Copy supports that. It does not replace it, and no amount of writing rescues a site with four blurry photos.

Speed is not a technical footnote in this trade, it is the product. A gallery that takes several seconds to appear has already lost to the painter whose photos loaded while the homeowner was still deciding to look.

Interior, exterior, commercial: three different buyers with three different budgets. The commercial buyer wants insurance limits and a schedule. The interior buyer wants to know whether you will move the furniture back.

Price sensitivity in painting is higher than in most trades, which cuts both ways. Publishing a range filters out the buyer who was never going to pay, and it wins the one who was tired of getting no answer at all.

One honest limit: a better website does not raise your close rate on jobs you already quote. It raises how many people ask for a quote, which is a different problem with a different fix.

The map pack, measured town by town Real scan
A real map-pack grid scan: 49 checkpoints across a metro, each bubble colored by where one business ranks in the local map results at that spot

A real scan: 49 checkpoints, one live map lookup each. Green means the map pack, grey means invisible at that spot. This is how we measure the work, spot by spot, not by searching from the office chair.

Real query shapes

What your buyers actually say: 6 ways the call starts.

Painting demand splits by surface, by season, and by who is paying. Each shape below wants a different page and a different set of photographs.

  • "We need the inside painted before we move in."

Map pack plus gallery. Decided quickly, often on a phone, frequently in the evening.

  • "What would the outside of the house run?"

Research intent with a real budget behind it. The page publishing a range gets the call.

  • "We manage a building and need painters on schedule."

Different buyer entirely. Wants insurance limits, crew size, plus night or weekend scheduling.

  • "Do you do cabinets, or just walls?"

High margin, growing, and a job most local painters have no dedicated page for.

  • "Who paints houses around here?"

The steady one. Needs a real page for their town with jobs finished there.

  • "Can we see some before and after photos first?"

Pure photo intent. Image results and a properly built gallery are what get found here.

These are the six registers painting demand splits into, not a call transcript. Each wants its own page and its own set of photographs, not one gallery trying to speak to all of them.

What arrives

What we build for a painting company: 6 pieces, in this order.

  • 01

    A gallery that loads immediately

Photos compressed and sized properly against a performance budget, so the first row of finished work is on screen in a couple of seconds on a mid-range phone with average signal.

  • 02

Before and after pairs, by job type

Paired shots from the same angle, filed under interior, exterior, cabinets, or commercial. One honest pair does more selling than three paragraphs about attention to detail ever will.

  • 03

    A page per job type

Interior, exterior, cabinets, commercial, plus deck and fence staining. Each is a separate decision with its own price expectation, its own season, and its own set of buyer questions.

  • 04

    Published price ranges

A square-foot band or a per-room band published on the page. Anything beats a contact form that promises to get back to you at some point.

  • 05

    Town pages built at scale

One page per town you want work in, each carrying jobs finished there. Six towns across six services is 36 pages, which is a normal build size for a painter covering a metro.

  • 06

A phone number a thumb can reach

Visible without scrolling on every page, tappable, plus a text option for the buyer who will not call a stranger. Painting inquiries skew heavily toward evening mobile traffic.

Fit

Who this fits: 4 signs it is you.

Painting is the trade where the build matters more than the ongoing program, at least at first. If the photos are not on a page that loads, nothing downstream of that is worth paying for.

This is you if:

  • You have finished jobs worth photographing, or a crew who will start taking the photos.
  • You quote interior, exterior, or commercial work and want more of one specific type.
  • Your current site is slow, dated, or somebody's cousin built it in an afternoon.
  • You would rather own the site outright than rent one from a directory platform.

We will tell you no if:

  • You have no photographs of your own work. We are not going to build a portfolio site out of stock images and call it yours.
  • You compete purely on being the cheapest bid. A better site raises your inquiry count, not your ability to win a race to the bottom.
  • You want a guaranteed ranking or a guaranteed lead count, which nobody can honestly sell you.
  • You need bookings this week. A build takes a build's time, and the ongoing work compounds after it.

How the work runs

What changes, month by month: the first 90 days.

  1. 01

Weeks 1 to 2: the free audit and the photo sort

Your current site and your Google profile go through all 14 categories of the audit, by hand. Then everything you already have gets filed by job type and by town, with the gaps named so your crew knows exactly what to shoot on the next few jobs.

  2. 02

Weeks 3 to 8: the site gets built against a speed budget

Design, pages per job type, town pages, and the quote path. Speed is a build requirement here rather than a cleanup task done afterward.

  3. 03

Month 2: inquiry volume is the first signal

Most painting clients notice the change first in how many people ask for a quote, since that is what a faster, photo-led site fixes directly. Close rate on quotes you already had does not move from a website alone.

  4. 04

Month 3 and on: the ongoing work compounds

Once the site can hold visibility, profile posts, reviews, and page improvements run monthly at $1,500 a month if you want us keeping it moving. Upkeep alone runs $99 a month if the site just needs to stay healthy.

Proof, not a pitch

Built by people who ran the truck first.

This program is built by an operator who ran a multi-state fence company himself, selling a product homeowners judged entirely by looking at it. Their public work is on the case-studies page: a full build where the finished product is shown, priced and easy to judge, the same photo-led approach this page argues for.

Build

What it costs: published, not quoted.

Painting prices against the build ladder first: $1,500 for the Starter site, $2,500 for the Growth site that adds per-service and per-town pages with published pricing, from $3,000 when an existing site has rankings that have to survive the move. What moves the number is how many job types and towns get their own page, plus how much of the photo library needs sorting before it can go up.

Tier Price What moves the number
Starter site The core site a local operator actually needs: services, service area, proof, plus a phone number that is never more than a thumb away. $1,500 one-time Page count, and how much of the content we write for you. Not included. Per-city page sets and published pricing pages are the Growth site. Ongoing search work is a separate monthly engagement.
Growth site The Starter site plus the pages that earn search traffic on their own: per-service and per-city pages, published pricing, and the proof library. $2,500 one-time How many service areas you need covered, and how many services get their own page. Not included. Custom application work sits in the Custom tier. Moving off an old site that already ranks? Rank-safe migration attaches to any build as a $400 line item.
Custom builds Larger builds and custom work, plus migrations where an existing site has rankings that have to survive the move. from $3,000 one-time Whether there are rankings to carry across, and how much of the build is bespoke rather than assembled. Objections and questions

Questions we get asked: 6 answers.

These come up on nearly every first call with a painting company, including the one where the answer costs us the sale.

Ask us something else

How much does this cost?

Builds are one-time and yours to keep. The Starter site is $1,500 and covers services, service area, proof, plus a phone number never more than a thumb away. The Growth site is $2,500 and adds the service-by-town page set, published pricing, and the built-in gallery. Custom work and migrations start at $3,000. Upkeep afterward is $99 a month for hosting managed, updates, backups, plus a couple of small content edits a month. Ongoing work is separate, starting at $1,500 a month.

How many photos do I actually need?

Fewer than you think, better than you have. A dozen genuinely good before and after pairs, shot from the same angle in decent light, beats two hundred phone snaps taken from a ladder. What matters is coverage across the job types you want more of: if you want cabinet work, the cabinet section cannot be one photo. We tell you exactly which gaps to shoot, and your crew fills them over the next few jobs rather than all at once.

Do interior and exterior need separate pages?

Yes, and commercial needs a third. They are bought by people asking different questions. An exterior buyer wants to know about prep, weather windows, and how long the paint should last. An interior buyer wants to know about dust, furniture, and how many days you will be in the house. One combined services page answers neither properly.

Do I have to write anything myself?

No. We write every page from the call and from your photo library. What we do need is real material: real before-and-afters, honest answers about your process, and which towns you actually want work from.

Is this worth it if demand for the trade itself is small in my area?

The number that matters is not how many people search for a painter's website, it is how many homeowners need one painted. That demand is much larger and split across interior, exterior, cabinets, plus every town you serve. Margins in painting are thinner than in the mechanical trades, which is exactly why owning your own visibility instead of renting a lead matters here.

All my leads come from lead apps. Why build a site?

If those apps are filling your calendar profitably, keep running them. We are not going to tell you to cut a channel that works. The argument for a site of your own is that app leads are sold to other painters at the same time, the fee tends to rise every year, and you build no asset while paying it. Plenty of painters run both for a season, then reduce the app spend once their own inquiries cover the schedule.
