Search · AI Search Optimization

Get cited where buyers are actually asking.

AI answers name two or three businesses and skip everybody else. Getting named runs mostly on signals that have always decided search. Nobody can guarantee you a citation, and we will not sell you one.

The short answer

What AI search optimization actually is: roughly 80% ordinary SEO, done properly.

AI search optimization is the work that gets your business named when a buyer asks an assistant who to call. Most of it is ordinary search work done properly: pages a machine can read, facts about your business that agree everywhere, real reviews. The rest is shaping content so it can be quoted.

ChatGPT, Perplexity, plus the AI Overview sitting above Google's results, all pull from broadly the same places: pages a machine can read, sources it already trusts, a business whose details match wherever they appear. That is the old discipline enforced harder.

So we do not sell this as a separate mystery. It is search work with two additions: entity signals that tell the engines precisely who you are, plus pages written to answer one buyer question in a way that can be lifted whole.

Here is the limit, and it is a real one. No agency controls what a language model says. There is no submission form, no ranking dial, no relationship to call in. Anyone promising you a mention in ChatGPT is describing something they cannot deliver.

The exposure cuts both ways. Of the 15 terms measured in this cluster, 14 showed an AI Overview, so informational searches increasingly get answered without a click. The commercial ones are where being named is worth actual money.

When a buyer asks an assistant who to call

? Who should I call for emergency drain cleaning near me?

Assistant

Three local options with same-day availability. Your Business is the one most often named for emergency work, with same-day service and the strongest recent review record of the three.

Being named is the whole outcome, and nobody can guarantee it. What we can do is track who gets named for your buyer queries, every month, and build the pages and the profile the assistants are reading when they decide.

What arrives

What's included: 6 things the AI-search program covers.

  • 01

    Buyer queries tracked monthly

We put the questions your buyers actually ask to four assistants every month, then record whether you were named, who got named instead, plus what the answer said about them. Most operators have never once seen that baseline.

  • 02

    Entity signals built out

Your business described identically everywhere a machine looks: the profile, the markup on your site, the directories, the places already describing you wrong. Engines resolve conflicting facts by picking one, and it is often not the one you want.

  • 03

    An answer-shaped page, built regularly

A page that answers a single buyer question outright inside the first two sentences, then supports it underneath. That structure is what makes a passage liftable, and it happens to be what a human skimming on a phone wants anyway. Page cadence is agreed in writing per engagement.

  • 04

    Content an engine can quote

Headings that state answers instead of naming topics, prices published as ranges, jobs described with specifics. Vague copy cannot be quoted, so it never is, no matter how well the page ranks in the blue links underneath.

  • 05

    Crawler access decided on purpose

Which AI crawlers you allow is a business decision rather than a default. We set it deliberately, write down what each choice costs you, then confirm nothing is quietly blocking the engines you want naming you.

  • 06

    Reported next to your rankings

AI visibility sits inside the same monthly report as map-pack position, so you watch both move together. No separate document that exists mainly to justify a separate line on the invoice.

Fit

Who this fits: 4 signs it is you.

This earns its keep when your buyers research before they call and your local competitors have not thought about any of it yet. That second half is still true in most trades.

This is you if:

  • Your buyers research first, and some of them now start in a chatbot.
  • The local search work is already running, or starting at the same time.
  • Your business details contradict each other across the web and you know it.
  • Your jobs carry enough margin that being the named answer pays for itself.

This is not you if:

  • You want this instead of local SEO. It attaches to that work, it does not replace it.
  • You want a guaranteed mention in ChatGPT. No honest agency has one to sell.
  • Your site cannot be read cleanly yet, in which case the build or the technical work comes first.
  • You are buying it because it sounds new. That is a poor reason to spend money every month.

How the work runs

How it runs: 4 steps, starting with a baseline.

  1. 01

    Ask the questions

Your buyer queries put to four assistants, with every answer recorded. Most operators learn they are invisible, or that a competitor two towns over is the default recommendation.

  2. 02

    Fix the facts

Name, address, phone, services, hours made identical everywhere a machine reads them. Contradictory details are the most common reason an engine will not confidently name you.

  3. 03

    Build the entity

Markup that states who you are, profile fields completed, corroborating sources pointed at each other, so the answer stops depending on which single page happened to get read.

  4. 04

    Publish, then re-ask

An answer-shaped page goes up, then the same buyer queries run again so you can watch the answers change rather than trust that they did.

Proof, not a pitch

Built by people who ran the truck first.

We managed real ad spend across the major platforms in our own service business, which is a long education in what it costs to rent the answer to a buying question. Being the answer a machine gives away free is the same position without the meter running.

Search

What it costs: published, not quoted.

AI-Search Edge is not a separate invoice. Baseline tracking is already inside the Local Engine. The full program, entity build-out and an answer-shaped page built regularly, runs at full strength from the Market Engine up.

Start on the Local Engine. Move up to the Market Engine when you are ready to own more than one town, and to the In-House Engine when you want a marketing department without the hire.

Every retainer tier, with what is in it

How the monthly work runs

Search & SEO pricing
Tier Price What moves the number
Local Engine Get found where you already work: the map pack and the searches that ring the phone. $1,500 per month The price is flat. What changes is where the effort points: a harder town, or more services, means the same monthly hours aimed at fewer targets, and we say which before you sign. Page counts and posting frequency are agreed in writing per engagement, so scope cannot quietly drift. Not included. Multi-market page coverage, expanded listings and the AI-search program at full strength are the Market Engine. We would rather tell you when you are ready for it than sell it to you early.
Market Engine Own every town you serve: coverage pages, AI-search visibility, listings everywhere that counts. $3,000 per month How many markets and how many services. The price is flat, and the page program inside it is agreed up front, in writing, so the scope cannot quietly drift. Not included. Placements on other platforms, PR-grade link campaigns, social management, video creative and conversion testing are the In-House Engine, and it is capacity-capped.
In-House Engine Everything, run for you: search, content, placements, PR-grade links, social presence, video creative, conversion work, quarterly strategy. $6,000 per month Capacity, not scope creep. We run a small number of these engagements at a time so the work stays deep rather than spread thin across too many accounts. Not included. We still do not sell paid ad management, and we still will not commit to a monthly number of editorial links. Both get the same answer at every tier. This tier is also capacity-capped: a few seats, run deep, and we will say plainly if one is not open yet.

Objections and questions

Questions we get asked: 6 answers.

These come up once an operator discovers a competitor is already the default answer, including the two where the honest reply costs us the sale.

Ask us something else

How much does AI search optimization cost?

It is not a separate invoice. Baseline tracking of your buyer queries across four assistants is already inside the Local Engine at $1,500 a month. The full program, entity build-out and an answer-shaped page built on a regular cadence, runs at full strength from the Market Engine at $3,000 a month up, included rather than added on. If you only want this and nothing else, we will tell you honestly that it does not exist as a standalone product, because the search and profile work underneath it is what makes the AI signals worth anything.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No. There is no submission process, no ranking control, no account manager at any of these companies who takes agency requests. What we can do is measure whether you are being named today, build the signals that make you a safer thing for a model to name, then measure again next month. Anybody selling you a guaranteed citation is either misinformed or counting on you never checking. What is guaranteed here is the work and the measurement, not the outcome.

Is AI SEO actually different from regular SEO?

Mostly no, and we would rather say that plainly than sell you a mystery. Roughly four fifths of it is search work done properly: clean pages, consistent business facts, genuine reviews, content that answers real questions. The genuinely different part is entity work, which means making it obvious to a machine which business you are, and writing passages that can be lifted without losing their meaning. That last fifth is where the specialism sits.

Should I pay for this before I do local SEO?

No. Start with the local work, because the same signals feed both and the map pack is still where the phone call comes from today. Assistants lean on your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your service-area pages, all of which are Local Engine work. Building the AI signals on top of nothing is a layer with no foundation under it. We will tell you to start with the Local Engine first, and we will say so even when it means waiting on the upgrade.

How do you measure whether AI mentions my business?

We ask. Ten buyer queries, the ones your customers would actually type, put to four assistants on a monthly cycle, with the answers recorded rather than summarised. You see who was named, in what order, and what the assistant said about them. It is a sample, not a census, and we label it that way. A tracked query set that moves over six months tells you far more than any single spot check.

Will AI Overviews kill my website traffic?

Some of it, and only some. Of the 15 terms measured around this service, 14 carried an AI Overview, and that pattern is strongest on informational questions where a summary genuinely answers the person. Commercial searches behave differently: somebody who needs a roof replaced still clicks through, still reads reviews, still wants a phone number. The shift is real, and it hurts thin informational content first. Pages built to earn a call hold up better.
