Search · Link Building

Authority earned, and reported link by link.

Other websites referencing yours is still one of the strongest ranking signals Google reads. Real ones are earned one at a time, by real publishers choosing to link, on their schedule rather than on a retainer line.

The short answer

What link building services actually are: earning references from real publishers, one at a time.

Link building is the work of getting other real websites to reference yours. Google still reads those references as votes for your business. Real ones are earned from publishers who decided you were worth mentioning, which is exactly why they cannot be produced on a monthly schedule.

Here is the part most agencies will not put in writing. We do not sell links by the month. A retainer line that reads five links a month is a number somebody invented before a single publisher had said yes to anything.

An agency promising that number every month is doing one of two things. Buying the links, which Google treats as a violation and acts on later rather than immediately. Or quietly missing the number and hoping the report is long enough that nobody checks.

Directory and citation work is different, and it does belong inside a retainer. That work is predictable: the listing either exists and matches your other listings or it does not. It sits in the Local Engine at $1,500 a month.

The honest limit: for most local operators, links are not the first lever. The profile, the reviews, the town pages all move the map pack faster and cost less. We will say that before quoting a campaign, and it costs us the bigger sale.

What arrives

What you get: 6 deliverables, and not one of them is a link quota.

  • 01

    A link profile teardown

Every domain currently pointing at you, set against every domain pointing at the operators outranking you. The gap between those two lists is the campaign. You keep the file whether or not you hire us to work it.

  • 02

    Named targets before we start

The campaign is quoted against a written list of the publishers, associations plus suppliers we intend to approach. You approve that list first, so nothing ever lands on a site you would not want your name attached to.

  • 03

    Supplier and association listings

Manufacturers you buy from, trade bodies you pay dues to, the chamber you already joined. Most operators are entitled to a listing on three or four of these and have claimed none of them. This is the cheapest authority on the board.

  • 04

    Unlinked mentions reclaimed

Places that already name your business in text without linking to it: a local news write-up, a supplier case study, a chamber roundup. Half the work is done already. Somebody just has to ask, in writing, to the right person.

  • 05

Local press with a real angle

A story a local outlet would actually run: the job nobody else would take, the storm week, the apprentice you put through a program. Pitched to a named editor rather than blasted at a scraped media list.

  • 06

    Every placement reported by URL

The live URL, the anchor text, the date it went up. Link by link, in the monthly report. No screenshot of a dashboard, no total with nothing behind it. If a month produced two links, the report says two.

Fit

Who this fits: 4 signs a link campaign is worth the money.

Link work is the last lever, not the first. It pays when the cheap levers are already pulled and the gap between you and the operators above you is authority rather than housekeeping.

This is you if:

  • You already hold map-pack positions on the easy terms and have stalled on the money terms.
  • Competitors carry links from places you could plainly get links from too.
  • You have something a publisher would cover: a real project, a real number, a real story.
  • You can wait two quarters for the effect rather than needing calls this week.

This is not you if:

  • You want a quantity per month. A monthly quota is a guess dressed as a plan.
  • You are comparing us to a $300 package promising 20 links. Those are bought, and you pay for them twice.
  • Your Google Business Profile is half filled in. Fix the free thing first.
  • You want placements purchased or posted to a private blog network.

How the work runs

How it runs: 4 steps, worked as a campaign.

  1. 01

    Map the gap

We pull the link profiles of the operators outranking you and list every domain linking to them but not to you. That list is the whole campaign, written down before a dollar moves.

  2. 02

    Qualify the targets

Each candidate gets checked for whether it is a real publication with real readers. Anything that exists only to sell placements comes off the list before it ever reaches you.

  3. 03

    Pitch by name

One approach at a time, to a named person, with a reason that page should reference you. Rejections get logged too, because a target list you cannot audit is a fiction.

  4. 04

    Report link by link

Each placement lands in the report with its URL and date, then gets re-checked a quarter later. A link that was quietly removed is not a link, and we would rather find that than you.

Proof, not a pitch

Built by people who ran the truck first.

Running a fence company across three states meant sitting on the supplier lists, the association rosters and the chamber directories that most agencies have to cold-pitch their way onto. That is where an operator's first honest links almost always are.

Search

What it costs: published, not quoted.

Directory and citation work is inside the retainer: kept correct at the Local Engine, $1,500 a month, and folded into the link outreach program at the Market Engine, $3,000 a month. Link acquisition is quoted as its own campaign, and what moves that number is how many qualified targets the gap list produces plus how hard your trade is to get covered.

Start on the Local Engine. Move up to the Market Engine when you are ready to own more than one town, and to the In-House Engine when you want a marketing department without the hire.

How the monthly work runs

Search & SEO pricing
Tier Price What moves the number
Local Engine Get found where you already work: the map pack and the searches that ring the phone. $1,500 per month The price is flat. What changes is where the effort points: a harder town, or more services, means the same monthly hours aimed at fewer targets, and we say which before you sign. Page counts and posting frequency are agreed in writing per engagement, so scope cannot quietly drift. Not included. Multi-market page coverage, expanded listings and the AI-search program at full strength are the Market Engine. We would rather tell you when you are ready for it than sell it to you early.
Market Engine Own every town you serve: coverage pages, AI-search visibility, listings everywhere that counts. $3,000 per month How many markets and how many services. The price is flat, and the page program inside it is agreed up front, in writing, so the scope cannot quietly drift. Not included. Placements on other platforms, PR-grade link campaigns, social management, video creative and conversion testing are the In-House Engine, and it is capacity-capped.
In-House Engine Everything, run for you: search, content, placements, PR-grade links, social presence, video creative, conversion work, quarterly strategy. $6,000 per month Capacity, not scope creep. We run a small number of these engagements at a time so the work stays deep rather than spread thin across too many accounts. Not included. We still do not sell paid ad management, and we still will not commit to a monthly number of editorial links. Both get the same answer at every tier. This tier is also capacity-capped: a few seats, run deep, and we will say plainly if one is not open yet.

Link acquisition campaigns: Scoped separately. Nobody can guarantee links. An agency that promises you a number of them every month is either buying them or not delivering them, and you end up paying for both.

Objections and questions

Questions we get asked: 6 answers.

These are the questions that decide whether a link campaign is honest work or an invoice with nothing behind it. Two of the answers below have cost us business.

Ask us something else

How much does link building cost?

Citations and directory listings are already paid for inside the search retainer: the Local Engine runs $1,500 a month and keeps them correct across the directories that carry weight, and the Market Engine at $3,000 a month folds them into the link outreach program. Editorial link acquisition is quoted separately as a campaign, priced against the named target list rather than against a monthly count. What moves that number is how many qualified targets your gap analysis produces and how difficult your trade is to get published coverage in.

How many links will I get per month?

We will not give you a number, and you should be suspicious of anyone who does. A publisher decides whether to link, and no agency controls that decision. What we commit to is the target list, the outreach against it, and a report showing every placement by URL plus every rejection. Some months produce four. Some produce one. A firm promising the same figure every single month is either buying placements or is going to miss the number and describe it another way.

Are guest post packages and paid links safe?

No. Buying links, exchanging them at scale, and placing content on networks built purely to pass authority are all against Google's spam policies, and the enforcement arrives on Google's timetable rather than yours. The bad part is the delay. Cheap links often work for a while, which is exactly what makes them sellable, and the correction lands months later when you have already built a lead forecast on top of the rankings. We do not do it and we will not subcontract it.

Do I actually need link building for local SEO?

Often not yet, and this is the answer that costs us money. For most single-location service businesses the map pack is decided by proximity, profile completeness and review behaviour long before authority becomes the deciding factor. If your profile is thin or your service-area pages do not exist, links are the expensive way to fix a cheap problem. The free audit will tell you which situation you are actually in, and it is free whether or not you hire us.

What is the difference between a citation and a link?

A citation is your business listed in a directory with your name, address and phone number. It is predictable work, it can be built to a schedule, and it belongs in a retainer. An editorial link is a real website choosing to reference you inside its own content. That one cannot be scheduled, which is the entire reason it carries weight. Both help. Only one of them can honestly be sold by the month, and mixing the two is how a link package gets sold.

How long before links move my rankings?

Supplier and association listings can be live within weeks because they are largely a matter of asking. Earned editorial placements take longer, because an outlet has to want the story, and the ranking effect trails the placement rather than arriving with it. A fair way to judge a campaign is one full quarter of outreach against a named list, measured against map-pack position rather than against a link count. Anyone quoting you a faster timeline is describing bought links without using the word.
